Cut Dance Scene 2 at table-
2.
Candy’s entrance -Lights on full stage.
Williams closes Bromden’s hand around a broom. The other patients are engaging in jobs of
floor polishing, dusting, etc. Ratched enters the station from USL. . Warren
comes to the door, and he has a visitor with him, a shapely woman wearing a
lot of makeup. She stands in the
doorway smacking her gum, looking at the men who are looking at her. She is amused, and they have stopped their
work. She walks over to the card table
and sits. Nurse Ratched is still
working in her station, oblivious to the visitor in the day room. McMurphy enters USL

After the first group meeting, the men count pills and
put them in little papers.

After five for the road runner, stack extra chairs
& move table with gum under it. .
The patients will carry chairs out to the dance.
5.
When
I hollered, you jumped. I thought you
was deaf? After transition, take the
log book, Ratched’s table, & two chairs for the next group therapy
meeting. Fold towels & inventory
medicine cabinet during second group meeting.
6.
Candy Scene- After Williams hands Bromden the broom
again, he looks at Candy and backs up, tripping over something. Warren runs and pulls out her chair for
her.

Step on lines after Ratched’s –Behave yourselves, Boys.
Let’s have Scanlon not playing cards, but working on the machine in the same
area. When he says – look out there –
he is afraid someone will bother his bomb. Cheswick -4 of us.
2.
Be a little quieter so we can hear Harding say – this place
is a madhouse….& then bring up the sound again.
3.
Cut second dance at table.
4.
After five for the road runner, the patients will carry
chairs out to the dance.
5.

Mac’s entrance -He backs into view
in a fighting crouch and is pursued by Warren who looks hot, angry, and
frustrated. Bromden lifts his head and looks curiously at McMurphy. McMurphy is suddenly aware that everyone
is staring at him, everyone but the chronics.
McMurphy is shaggy with long sideburns. A devilish grin is plastered across his
face. He is wearing a motorcycle cap,
motorcycle jacket, Hawaiian shirt, patched and faded jeans, and boots. He is
bright compared to the other residents and health care professionals. A wide-open extroverted air which registers
almost shockingly in this environment.
Now he hooks his thumbs in his belt and starts to laugh. It rings big and free, and its vibrations
jolt the patients open-mouthed.Although the lines are
cut, I want you to do this – less running – more avoiding being caught.
2.
On Twenty dollars to your ten. The acutes swarm to find paper and write
IOU’s. Martini grabs color. We can put the colored things on the ward hatrack.
3.
2nd group meeting when
Dr. Spivey says he has signed the request. McMurphy nods his head with a
“thumbs up” to the doctor.
Embarrassed, Dr. Spivey returns the “thumbs up.” Billy, Scanlon,
Cheswick, and Martini all share in this victory in different ways. Chief Bromden puts his broom up.

5. Just warmin up. This
time he throws all his strength into it. He closes his eyes and his lips
strain away from his teeth. His head
is thrown back, his whole body shakin with the strain. Chief
Bromden finds himself moving toward McMurphy in a sort of muscular
empathy. MAC The air explodes out of his lungs. He collapses over the panel and falls on
the floor. For a few minutes, there is
no sound but his scraping breath. MAC
pulls himself to his feet, crosses and picks up the IOU’s with clawed and
shaking hands from Harding. Proffers
them, but no one makes a move, so he throws them on the floor. He turns and makes his way unsteadily
toward the dormitory.

First group meeting – do something. This is what was written in the script. - Turns his cap sideways and laughs
uproariously at his joke. You could mess your hair up crazily. You could mimic a cartoon character with
your line – Do I look like a sane man? He is rubbing it in that he is not
really insane.
3.
Oh, yeah, yeah….I think I’m beginning to ketch on.
Realizing what he has to do to stay out of the work farm.
4.
Who’s
willin to lay five bucks? He pauses and holds up all of their
IOU’s. Here’s all your IOU’s from
blackjack. Double or nothing! He puts IOU’s out for Harding to hold.

BEFORE HERE COME THE
CHAMPS Ratched: May I, Doctor? We have just come from the treasurer's office. It concerns Randle Patrick McMurphy. The aides, Flinn, Ratched & Spivey are as surprised as the patients by Mac and Bromden’s shenanigans. |

Something that we are struggling with right now is consistancy withing our charcters. I often find myself falling out of my posture and other habits that my character has. Especially with the paitent this is vital to the show and without the consistancy with continual use of quirks and movements will make our show believable.
ReplyDeleteMental illnesses are more common than cancer, diabetes, or heart disease. In any given year, more than five million Americans experience an acute episode of mental illness. One in every five families is affected in their lifetime by a severe mental illness, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and major depression.
ReplyDeleteI believe one thing we need to work on is keeping the energy of each scene up. I see this especially in the party scene. I believe this is due to the fact that we are still having trouble with our lines. Of course this is no excuse. Everyone should know their lines by now, so we can start working on truly making our performance phenomanal.
ReplyDeleteWe are about a month in and we are still struggling with lines. At this point we need to worry about actions and not lines. All we're doing is holding ourselfes back by not working to our full potential. The sooner lines are memorized the sooner we can "get this show on the road." It won't be long until we have our frist clinlic, and we have some high expectations to live up to.
ReplyDeleteSince we are only a week and a half away from our first clinic, we need to start focusing more on what we are doing instead of jacking around the entire rehearsal.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be more people noises during the party when yall are dancing and Austin and Nolan need to be meaner to the patients.
ReplyDeleteneed more people nioses throught the whole play, only when need. more reaction in the fight sense, when mac walks comes in the begining, when billy dies. we need to conect more with our chacaters.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I need to groan for my noise that or yell " whack em' all!" expecailly when there is chaos going on in the scene
